Lenoir-Rhyne University is pleased to announce the fifth year of the LR Teaching Scholars scholarship program. Awards are made annually to seventeen (17) graduating high school seniors who meet all of the following criteria: Complete an Aubrey Lee Brooks Scholarship Application, demonstrate financial need, plan to enroll as full-time students in a degree-granting program at N.C. State University, UNC-Chapel Hill, or UNC-Greensboro, and permanently reside and attend high school in one of the following counties: Alamance, Bertie, Caswell, Durham, Forsyth, Granville, Guilford, Orange, Person, Rockingham, Stokes, Surry, Swain, or Warren. The scholarship provides for an award of about one-half the cost of an undergraduate education. The maximum award for the prior academic year was $12,000. Brooks Scholars may receive additional funding for summer internships, research or travel abroad, and a one-time computer stipend of $2,500. The scholarship is renewable, provided the recipient has continued financial need, remains enrolled full-time at an eligible institution, maintains a 2.75 cumulative grade point average and good citizenship. NSCDA Florence Kidder Memorial Scholarship: $3000 and $1000 scholarships for students planning to attend a North Carolina college/university. Recipients selected based on the merit of an essay on the assigned topic, plus character and scholastic record and need. Deadline to apply is Sunday, February 2, 2020. University Based Scholarships:
A version of the original North Carolina Teaching Fellows Scholarship/Loan program is back for our North Carolina seniors! Five NC colleges & universities now offer the NC Teaching Fellows program (NC State, UNC-Chapel Hill, UNC-Charlotte, Elon, and Meredith) for STEM related majors or special education majors. If selected for the Teaching Fellows program, recipients will be given $8,250 per year in forgivable loans for service. High school applicants or applicants must have a minimum unweighted high school GPA of 3.0 and have scored at least a 24 on the ACT or a 1,100 on the SAT. To repay each year of the loan you must agree to work one year for every year you accepted the loan in a low performing school in NC or 2 years in a non- low performing school. So basically if you work for 4 years in a low performing school you will pay off the loan, and if you work 8 years in a non-low performing school you will pay off the loan. You have 10 years to pay off the loan. If you end up not working in that field you will have to pay the loans back. Greenhouse Scholars is looking for students who demonstrate leadership within their communities. Below are some scholarships offered through the NC High School Athletic Association (NCHSAA) for student-athletes. Please read each description carefully to see if you qualify. Read the entire description. Some have multiple qualifiers (for example, the Charlie Adams is for a senior male on the wrestling team and for a female on the cross country team). 1) Cheerleading Scholarship Deadline November 15, 2019: Applicant must be a member of a cheerleading squad registered for and participating in the NCHSAA Cheerleading Invitational event that year. This scholarship recognizes and rewards outstanding cheerleaders exemplifying sound character and academic standing, good sportsmanship, and school spirit by providing financial assistance in furthering his or her college/university education. Four (4) $500.00 scholarships will be awarded during the NCHSAA Cheerleading Invitational with one given to a cheerleader per NCHSAA classification (1A, 2A, 3A, 4A).
2) Charlie Adams Endowed Scholarship - Awarded to one senior male high school athlete participating on the varsity wrestling team at a North Carolina High School Athletic Association member high school and one senior female high school athlete participating on the varsity cross-country team at a North Carolina High School Athletic Association member high school. 3) Jerry McGee Endowed Student Scholarship - Awarded to two senior year high school student-athletes from North Carolina High School Athletic Association member schools each year. This award is unique because it honors both male and female student-athletes who have distinguished themselves by overcoming adversity and returned to excel beyond expectations in their scholastic athletic sport(s). Deadline March 13, 2020
4) Pat Gainey Student Award - To provide scholarship support for two student-athletes with a focus on need-based applicants. Applicants must be either a Senior, Male high school athlete participating on a varsity baseball team at a North Carolina High School Athletic Association member high school within a county of limited financial resources or a Senior, Female student high school athlete participating on a varsity sports team at a North Carolina High School Athletic Association member high school within a county of limited financial resources. 5) Wilburn Clary Medal Award - Awarded to one male and one female graduating senior student-athlete participating on a sanctioned varsity sport team during his/her senior year at a North Carolina High School Athletic Association member school. Athlete must have participated on at least two sanctioned varsity sports during his/her high school career. Deadline Feb 7, 2020
6) Willie Bradshaw Memorial Endowed Scholarship - To provide scholarship support to an outstanding African American, American Indian/Alaska Native* and/or Asian Pacific Islander American**, or Hispanic American student-athlete participating on a sanctioned varsity team at a North Carolina High School Athletic Association member school. Award Process: One male and one female from each of the eight regions will be selected to receive a $750 scholarship each to further their education. From the pool of sixteen (16) regional winners, one male and female will be selected as overall state winners and receive an additional $1,000 each. Deadline Feb 7, 2020
7) SECU People Helping People Scholarship
It is time again to begin thinking about the 2020 SECU Foundation People Helping People Scholarship! Each year, $10,000.00 scholarships have been awarded to three graduating senior attending North Carolina Charter Schools.
These scholarships will be awarded to students attending one of the 16 constituent campuses of the University of North Carolina. Funds are made possible through the contributions to SECU Foundation by members of the State Employees’ Credit Union.

It is time again to begin thinking about the 2020 SECU Foundation People Helping People Scholarship! Each year, $10,000.00 scholarships have been awarded to three graduating senior attending North Carolina Charter Schools.
These scholarships will be awarded to students attending one of the 16 constituent campuses of the University of North Carolina. Funds are made possible through the contributions to SECU Foundation by members of the State Employees’ Credit Union.

National Scholarship: The Burger King Scholarship is for 2 year, 4 year or vocational colleges/universities. The application can be accessed @ https://burgerking.scholarsapply.org/ Applicants must be living in the United States, Canada or Puerto Rico, Be graduating high school seniors (U.S. and Puerto Rico), have a cumulative high school grade point average of 2.5 or higher on a 4.0 scale, or the equivalent, plan to enroll full-time, without interruption, for the entire 2020-21 academic year at an accredited two- or four-year college, university or vocational-technical school in the U.S., Canada or Puerto Rico, and be passionate about serving the community. Deadline to apply is December 15, 2019.
FOOT LOCKER SCHOLARSHIP: ELIGIBILITY In order to be eligible for the Foot Locker Scholar Athletes program, the applicant must:
Be a current high school senior entering a four-year, accredited US college or university in the Fall of 2020
Be currently a member (in good standing) of a high school sports team or be involved in afterschool sports (e.g. intramurals, martial arts, etc.)
Have maintained an unweighted GPA of 3.0 or higher from ninth grade to first semester of 12th grade
Be a U.S. citizen or US Permanent Legal Resident Foot Locker employees and their immediate family members are ineligible Online applications can be found at https://footlockerscholarathletes.com/. The deadline to apply is 5 pm EST on January 3, 2020.
NSCDA Florence Kidder Memorial Scholarship: $3000 and $1000 scholarships for students planning to attend a North Carolina college/university. Recipients selected based on the merit of an essay on the assigned topic, plus character and scholastic record and need. Deadline to apply is Sunday, February 2, 2020. University Based Scholarships:
A version of the original North Carolina Teaching Fellows Scholarship/Loan program is back for our North Carolina seniors! Five NC colleges & universities now offer the NC Teaching Fellows program (NC State, UNC-Chapel Hill, UNC-Charlotte, Elon, and Meredith) for STEM related majors or special education majors. If selected for the Teaching Fellows program, recipients will be given $8,250 per year in forgivable loans for service. High school applicants or applicants must have a minimum unweighted high school GPA of 3.0 and have scored at least a 24 on the ACT or a 1,100 on the SAT. To repay each year of the loan you must agree to work one year for every year you accepted the loan in a low performing school in NC or 2 years in a non- low performing school. So basically if you work for 4 years in a low performing school you will pay off the loan, and if you work 8 years in a non-low performing school you will pay off the loan. You have 10 years to pay off the loan. If you end up not working in that field you will have to pay the loans back. Greenhouse Scholars
Greenhouse Scholars is looking for students who demonstrate leadership within their communities. If you are selected as a scholar you gain financial support for college, mentor-ship, peer support, internship opportunities, among other things. Be a graduating high school senior planning to attend a four-year accredited academic institution
Be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident and a legal resident of Colorado, Georgia, Illinois or North Carolina.
Have a cumulative, unweighted GPA of 3.5 or above
Demonstrate financial need (annual household income no greater than $70,000)
Possess excellent leadership skills, an ability to persevere through difficult circumstances, and a strong interest in and commitment to their community The Greenhouse Scholars application process consists of two rounds:

After submitting an online application, applicants will be notified of their finalist status in February and acceptance in March.

Student Athletes Scholarship Opportunities:
Below are some scholarships offered through the NC High School Athletic Association (NCHSAA) for student-athletes. Please read each description carefully to see if you qualify. Read the entire description. Some have multiple qualifiers (for example, the Charlie Adams is for a senior male on the wrestling team and for a female on the cross country team). 1) Cheerleading Scholarship Deadline November 15, 2019: Applicant must be a member of a cheerleading squad registered for and participating in the NCHSAA Cheerleading Invitational event that year. This scholarship recognizes and rewards outstanding cheerleaders exemplifying sound character and academic standing, good sportsmanship, and school spirit by providing financial assistance in furthering his or her college/university education. Four (4) $500.00 scholarships will be awarded during the NCHSAA Cheerleading Invitational with one given to a cheerleader per NCHSAA classification (1A, 2A, 3A, 4A).
2) Charlie Adams Endowed Scholarship - Awarded to one senior male high school athlete participating on the varsity wrestling team at a North Carolina High School Athletic Association member high school and one senior female high school athlete participating on the varsity cross-country team at a North Carolina High School Athletic Association member high school. Deadline Feb 7, 2020
3) Jerry McGee Endowed Student Scholarship - Awarded to two senior year high school student-athletes from North Carolina High School Athletic Association member schools each year. This award is unique because it honors both male and female student-athletes who have distinguished themselves by overcoming adversity and returned to excel beyond expectations in their scholastic athletic sport(s). Deadline March 13, 2020
4) Pat Gainey Student Award - To provide scholarship support for two student-athletes with a focus on need-based applicants. Applicants must be either a Senior, Male high school athlete participating on a varsity baseball team at a North Carolina High School Athletic Association member high school within a county of limited financial resources or a Senior, Female student high school athlete participating on a varsity sports team at a North Carolina High School Athletic Association member high school within a county of limited financial resources. 5) Wilburn Clary Medal Award - Awarded to one male and one female graduating senior student-athlete participating on a sanctioned varsity sport team during his/her senior year at a North Carolina High School Athletic Association member school. Athlete must have participated on at least two sanctioned varsity sports during his/her high school career. Deadline Feb 7, 2020
6) Willie Bradshaw Memorial Endowed Scholarship - To provide scholarship support to an outstanding African American, American Indian/Alaska Native* and/or Asian Pacific Islander American**, or Hispanic American student-athlete participating on a sanctioned varsity team at a North Carolina High School Athletic Association member school. Award Process: One male and one female from each of the eight regions will be selected to receive a $750 scholarship each to further their education. From the pool of sixteen (16) regional winners, one male and female will be selected as overall state winners and receive an additional $1,000 each. Deadline Feb 7, 2020
